What Are the Odds of a Machine Hitting Twice?

24 October 2010

By Frank Scoblete

Hi Frank,

Here is one or you. My wife and I visited Mohegan Sun Casino in Pa. She was playing the same machine and hit $1,000. This same machine she hit two other times for $1,000 within six weeks. She knows because when she hit the first time she took the number of the machine so she knows it is the same machine. What's the odds for that?

Looks like the house is losing its edge.

Regards and have a great day at craps,
Jaggy

Dear Jaggy:

The machine is (unfortunately for the players) not losing its edge. I am sure there were tens of thousands of spins on that machine in the course of those six weeks so the chance of such a big hit was not all that remote. However, your wife was really lucky and I am happy for her. Rub her arm and maybe some of that luck will rub off on you.

All the best in and out of the casinos!

Frank
