Using The 5-Count in Craps

18 June 2005

By Frank Scoblete

Dear Frank,

First let me start by saying that I love your craps books Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos and Forever Craps. I have a question when using the 5-Count. I was playing in Detroit the other day using the 5-Count on the 6 and the 8. This seems like a grinding method but that's ok. I was wondering should I leave my 6 and 8 placed on the come out roll if I am already to the 5-Count and also could you briefly explain the 5-Count with consideration to the pass line, because I seemed to miss that in the book. If it is in the book would you point what page it is out to me.

Sincerely,
Robert F.

Dear Robert,

The 5-Count is the key to reducing your exposure to the house edge. If you are already up on the 6 and 8 and the shooter makes his Pass Line point, do not have the bet working. Some shooters attempt to get that 7 on the come-out roll, so to be safe, stay off on those place bets until he establishes another point. You treat the Pass line bet, the come-out, etc., just as you would any other roll – with one difference. If the shooter has already made a point and rolls a come-out 7, the 5-Count continues, it doesn't end as it would if a point had already been established.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
