Dear Frank,
My name isn't Tom but I can absolutely relate to the first Tom in your "Tale of Two Toms." There is one bet that I have made lately for one buck and it is called a "FIRE" bet. I had experienced two sessions in the past month where chicken feeder shooters made five numbers and the payoffs were very handsome. What can you tell me about this "FIRE" bet? I'll bet the odds are grossly in favor of the house, but I am a longshot horse player who once won $975 on a one
dollar bet in a stakes race.
Other than this crazy crapper bet, I always use the 5-Count, place the 6/8 for $6 and play the PASS and one COME with double odds. I usually lose and sometimes win but always have lots of fun.
David
Dear David:
On random rollers, the house edge for hitting the Fire Bet is about 25 percent. It is obviously not a good bet and is much like a slot machine, giving a good payout at horrible edges for a small bet. But those small bets will add up over time. Otherwise, your game looks good to me.
All the best in and out of the casinos!
