Whenever I place the 6 and 8 and have them working on the come-out, folks tell me that's a bad bet. Why? The odds are the same of rolling the 6 or 8 on any roll, in my mind. Please advise — I win on this bet, usually try for one more and take them down.

Well, you are right and you are wrong. In a random game, the casino has an edge on that bet of 1.52%. If you have these numbers working on the come-out, that edge is eating away at your bankroll. As you say, the odds of hitting these numbers are the same no matter when they are working, but your losses go up the more you have them on. So keep them off on the come-out.
Let me recommend that you use the 5-Count in your play. That will really help reduce the house edge's hit on your bankroll.
