From Marilyn: I enjoy your column daily and always learn something from the experiences you write about.

This particular article about “don’t be a pig” is something I often see during my visits to the casino.

Being a middle of the road slots player, I earn my fair share of comps. Since I don’t live near the casino, my visits are less frequent than I’d like, so I don’t always use all the comps that I’m offered. I do appreciate the free play and the food comps, they make my visits more enjoyable.

On one occasion I had lunch with a friend, she and I each ordered filets since we each had a nice amount of food comp on our players cards, it was a memorable meal that we enjoyed.

I have seen on many occasions those folks who you wrote about who seem to get stuff just because it’s free. That annoys me.

In the past I was among the group of players in the top tier of the slot club and I thoroughly enjoyed using the “black card” lines and being admitted in the “club” where there was free food and lower priced drinks. It was a special place to me, a place to take a friend to sit and relax and escape the constant hum of the casino floor.

I’ve missed being in that special tier but I haven’t missed watching some of the people who are “glutinous pigs”, the loud ones who heap their plates with everything and leave behind a messy table.

The past six months I have visited the casino more often, hit a few more jackpots and earned more points on my players card. My comps have been nice. I am a whisper away from hitting the required amount of points earned during this six month period to be bumped up into that “black card” status. Having that top tier card again will be sweet! I feel that I’ve “earned” the privilege of being in that club but I won’t be a “pig” about it!

Thanks for your articles!

From Jeff: I do not like to play at full blackjack tables. I know you recommend doing this as you play fewer hands and that helps your overall expectation but I get bored easily as I watch others playing their hands. I want to be in on the action and watching someone else play doesn’t give me the thrill I am looking for. Otherwise I like what you write!

From Janice: I have never played video poker because it seems to be really hard to get a royal flush. Isn’t it once in about 40,000 spins? That doesn’t mean you’ll get one if you play that long. So I think with video poker you will lose most of your sessions without those big hands. That seems like a downer.

I prefer the straight slots. I think you have a better chance of hitting something on those. And you also don’t have to memorize different strategies. I do not go to the casino to think!

From Martin: I prefer to go to the casinos during the day as they are not that crowded, especially during weekdays. You also get better comps midweek or at least that’s what I’ve found with regards to free rooms and food comps.
