Kurt wrote Frank a month ago and asked about the Captain's High Roller System. Kurt is back from trips to Las Vegas and Canada and sent Frank letters giving his results.

First, Kurt's original letter about the High Roller System, and then the letters after his trips.

Dear Frank,

I used the 5-count on 3 trips to AC and 1 trip to Canada. On the 3 trips to AC, I used the High Roller System to gain a profit of $2300 and all trips paid. In Canada I used the Doey-Don't and gave back $700.

I'm going to Vegas and would like to increase my bets using the High Roller System. Should I just play 6 and 8 for $90 each, or 6 and 8 for $90 each and 4/10 for $50, instead of $60 on the 6 and the 8 and $35 on the 4/10?

I would like to say the Beat the Craps ouf of the Casino is the best book I've read on craps.

Thank you,
Kurt

Dear Kurt:

I'm happy you're happy. Here's my advice. In Vegas you will find many casinos that will not charge commission on the 4 or 10 unless you win them! That reduces the house edge by two-thirds. Off the top of my head you're facing somewhere around a 1.25 percent edge -- better even than the edge for the 6 or 8! So go with three numbers: $60 on the 6 and 8 and $50 on the 4 or 10. If you get hot, go up on both the 4 and the 10. But always use that 5-Count. Play at the casinos with the commission on winning bets only and at your level of play you should get everything comped and have a damn good shot at winning some more money.

All the best in and out of the casinos.

Dear Frank,

WHAT A WEEK!

Six days at The Mirage in Las Vegas, 27.5 hours at the craps table and over $5000 in profits. Only one losing day, on which I lost $1400. The 5-count worked perfectly and playing the 6 & 8 for $60 each and $50 on the 4/10.

My wife and I stayed in one of the penthouse suites. On Saturday night, when I went to the host to check on my comps, I was told they would take care of everything, and also would provide a limo to the airport. This was my most extensive use of the 5-count.

A few questions:

On two different shoots, the shooter picked up his chips and walked away after hitting his number. The first time this happened, I had 3 wins and just restarted the 5-count because it was a new shooter. The second time, I had just pressed my bets and again restarted the 5-count. Both times I called off my bets. Was this the right move?

More than a few times I watched the 5 & 9 get hit time and time again. Is there a way to incorporate them into the 5-count High Roller System?

Once again, thank you for everything. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

P.S. I'm going to canada next week!

Kurt

Dear Kurt:

New shooter, new 5-Count. Sometimes it's hard to do because you've been waiting to get into the action and now you have to back out when a guy walks away from a roll. But make this a law: new shooter = new 5-Count.

The 5 and 9 are problematical. They have high edges when placed (4 percent). You could try to buy one or both for $38 and see if they'll take a $1 commission for it. Or, at Mirage and places that take commissions on wins only, you could just buy the 5 and 9 (if they'll allow it) for $50. That would reduce the edge to around 2.5 percent, not great but not as bad as 4 percent. Or, you could get up on your other numbers and if you see the 5 or 9 showing put up a come and go up that way. If they are showing like crazy, and you're ahead, you might bite the bullet and place them and hope the 4 percent doesn't hurt you in the short run.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Frank

Dear Frank,

I did not have a good trip in Canada. In all your craps play have you ever seen the dice so cold that it took 33 shooters before a point number got hit? I lost only $1200 thanks to the 5-count.

Kurt

Dear Kurt:

Oh yes. This is exactly what the 5-Count prevents, total devastation. You still have a profit from your two trips, whereas had you not played the 5-Count, you'd be down a lot. Some tables and some days, it just doesn't happen.

Frank
