Frank:
I'm trying to analyze the advantage of keeping a 6 or 8 place bet ON on the come out. I seems to me that if I keep a $6 place bet ON with a $5 pass line bet, I'm getting 7 to 1 odds on a bet that is usually 7 to 6. (I lose $1 if the 7 rolls but win $7 if the 6 rolls.) It's true that this way I will win $1 less in 36 statistically perfect come out rolls, but the odds are so good it seems a good idea. One hit on the 6 will cancel 7 losses. What's your opinion?
Fred
Dear Fred:
No advantage whatsoever doing this. You are thinking about these bets incorrectly. Your pass line bet of $5 loses you 1.41%. That is a loss of 7 cents. Now, your $6 bet on the 6 or 8 loses you 1.52%. That's a loss of 9 cents. So instead of losing a mere 7 cents using a pass line bet, you add another loss of 9 cents, more than double. So don't keep those 6 or 8 bets working. You are always better off in a random game of craps having fewer bets working at any given time, including on the come-out.
