Evaluating a Reader's Craps System

Hi, Frank,

On my computer I play dice this way: On the come out roll I place 1 unit on the don't pass line and when the point number has been established I buy all the numbers for 1 unit each and leave the numbers working until one of them hits, then take every thing down including the don't pass line. I have been winning on the computer, but is this a good system to play at a real casino?

Dear Joe,

You are not giving the house too much of an edge betting this way but it is not a winning method. You are experiencing a 1.4 percent edge on each and every bet, so in the long run you will lose 1.4 percent of all the money you wager this way. So, if you are wagering $100, you can expect to lose $1.40 approximately. Of course, you don't lose the money smoothly. Some nights you'll win, some you'll lose, but the longer you play the more the probabilities work themselves out to be at or near that 1.4 percent figure.
