Dear Frank,
I am from the UK and have had an interest in playing craps for the last few years. Unfortunately, I only really get the chance to play when I am on vacation as there is no real love of craps in the UK.
I came across the 5-Count this evening at work whilst working the overnight shift! Dr. Don Catlin has provided testing that shows the advantages of using the count if a player has the patience and discipline to stick with it. (http://www.goldentouchcraps.com/proof.shtml)
My question is: Would you not be able to significantly increase the elimination of random rollers percentage if a player was to adopt a 6-Count? Whilst most players around a table have an SSR of 1-6, if there is a skilled shooter at the table the 5-Count will select him with a higher frequency than the rest of the players and will thereby reduce the house edge or, as in this case, give the player the edge. If we were to extend the 5-Count to 6-Count we could therefore reduce the house edge further.
The negative side of increasing the count is that it would require increased discipline and patience as a player is going to have fewer betting opportunities. The reason that I have asked solely about increasing the count to 6 is that due to the noted negative side of increasing the count a player using the count would still like to place some bets.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.
Kind regards,
Dan
Hi Dan:
You are right. On random rollers the 6-Count is better than the 5-Count and the 100-Count is better than the 6-Count. However, the best bet on random rollers is no bet. Unfortunately, many players do not know in advance who the controlled shooters might be and thus we use the 5-Count. If you wish to extend that to the 6-Count that would be fine but as you say, the discipline necessary would be greater.
