I would like to tell you of a skill I have developed. I am not a gambler by profession nor do I frequent the casinos. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I just watched a show on the Biography channel about you and the Dominator ["The Dice Dominator" http://www.goldentouchcraps.com/HistoryChannel.shtml]. Needless to say I was impressed by the Dominator's statement of "enjoying craps because I am in control."
I had played backgammon for many years in the early '80s. I had become very adept at rolling hard 10s and 12s. I believe it was in how they felt in my hand. I would roll them around until they felt right. It makes no difference what kind or size of dice I have. I get a feel for the dice in my hands and I can just roll them. I do not need to have them sitting on a table with any specific numbers up.
I can pick them up and roll them in my hands for a few seconds and roll them. I also intend that they come up with the 12 or the 12. My friends no longer played backgammon with me. They were intimidated, to say the least. While they do not come up had 10s and 12s always, they do go many many rolls without a seven showing. I believe the longest was 26 that I can recall. I never actually counted it.
Let me relate this story of how I got 86'd from Ormsby House in Carson City, Nevada in the fall of 1987.
I rolled a hard ten seven out of nine rolls. I guess I drew too much attention to myself. The house dick and pit boss were both at the table to 'OK' my bet when it went over the house limit. I did this in about 12 minutes. It was 10:30 am on a Sunday morning. I was in Carson City to see my cousin get married. I was very relaxed and not concerned with winning or scared at all. I was with my Dad, who had played much blackjack in his day (a game I ALWAYS lose at). He was very worried. I recall the pit boss saying, "Do you work at any gaming establishment in the state of Nevada?" I told him no and pulled out my ID holding it high over my head so the camera could get a good shot. I handed my ID to the house dick and asked him to hold this while I was playing. I also recall saying, "Free drinks for everyone!" I was having a good time beating them at their own game. I owned them and they knew it.
I have never shot craps since then.
I am sure you get lots of mail about people who say they can do this. I really can.
All I can say is "Wow!" If this is a natural ability you have then get back to backgammon and have some fun. I think there are national and worldwide tournaments in this game too — that would be a real test of your talents. It would also be fun.
Some casinos get themselves in a snit about certain controlled dice shooters; these casinos think everyone should be happy to lose their money to the casinos' massive treasuries.
Your letter certainly opens up vistas for you becoming an actual controlled shooter. It is something you might consider — as a fun pastime, not as a profession.
For your letter I am giving you a free 30-day subscription to my private, members-only website at www.goldentouchcraps.com. We have over 5,000 members on this site and I think you will enjoy the discussions on our message boards.
All the best in and out of the casinos!
